The Travellers

My new book, Shimmering Horizons, is shaped like a journey.

With the theme of the journey, the quest, the odyssey, it opens with a signpost pointing ahead:

and closes with another looking back:

Each week for a few weeks I am posting a selection of the poems, one from each Part of the book, on a page of my blog. If you are curious you can see them here at : https://johnlooker.wordpress.com/extracts-from-shimmering-horizons/

Shimmering Horizons is published by Bennison Books through Amazon at £3.99 in the UK, $4.99 in the USA and €4.99 or at comparable prices elsewhere.

  1. I like what you’ve written, and I especially like the way you set it on the page.

    • Thanks Brian, that means a lot to me.
The shape first appeared hazily while I was drafting and I was so pleased with it that I worked to refine it. Serendipity.

  2. You are a gifted poet and writer, John. This is beautiful and even at my age I am thus learning to put a little ‘work’ into what I write…not that I haven’t always thought I did…but perhaps more. I believe you are a writer that ‘serendipity’ has graciously put alongside my path and I am happy it did.

  3. That’s a really kind thought – thank you. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your poems since I discovered your website so the serendipity works two ways!
Do you mind if I ask you how you like to see your name spelled! Renee or Renée? Living over here in England and being a European in my heart, I couldn’t resist popping that acute accent in, but maybe that’s not the American way?

  4. These two poems are marvellous, made more so by the shaping on the page. I take great pleasure in reading your poetry John, and often learn form you too.
