Suddenly there’s a breeze
and the trees are weeping blossom.
Would we have it otherwise:
no fruit, no colours of autumn?

The photo came first. It was taken by Tom Stevens who describes it as merely an iPhone snap, but in fact it’s both beautiful and moving, isn’t it? More of his photography can be found at:

Lovely but sad beauty, if it weeps, and the wonderful word-simplicity of your observation. (I really like, once again, the child, from the back, moving on). But yes, except for the fruit, we seem. wanting to have it otherwise, all of the time.

I suppose ‘sad’ is accurate Cynthia, but I prefer to see it as realistic — or maybe ‘reconciled’? Now that I am old … …

Such a lovely scene, and yet a sad one as the lovely blossoms, whose purpose is only to attract bees I suppose, have to go, for life to move on. There always is that dilemma in every aspect of life: Beauty giving in to wisdom (being a bit philosophical here 🙂 )

Took me a few beats to absorb all that’s implied here. Yes, the photo is remarkable, and the spareness of the poem shares its one-off poignance.

Thanks Tom. I hoped the verse would do justice to the photo.

I, too, find this one simple and provoking and I enjoy the image to go with it.

Enjoying this “now” moment, of both your words and the photo, John. Each season has its own fulfilling beauty.
